The Client
Our client is an industry leading Plc organisation based in the Central London who require an Network Engineer (3rd Line) join an existing team of highly proficient network & infrastructure engineers. Applicants will need to have the requisite communication skills demanded by a FTSE100 company.
The Role as Network Infrastructure Engineer (3rd Line)
The position as Network Infrastructure Engineer (3rd Line) entails working closely with the Network (70%) & Infrastructure (30%) engineering team to provide a conduit between the two recently merged departments. There is a broad range of works including trouble shooting, maintenance, back-ups, project work and BAU. The role requires an energetic, engaging, dynamic and passionate individual with an excellent attention to detail to work on the following;
Duties;
- Supports recovery of the infrastructure environment in the event of system failure or disaster
- Provides 2nd and 3rd line support to analyse, diagnose and resolve infrastructure issues
- Proactive fault finding, including the identification and elimination of single points of failure and security weak points
- Utilising, implementing and configuring appropriate monitoring solutions to proactively find and resolve issues before they become user impacting
- Work with other members of the infrastructure team to diagnose, analyse and resolve multi component infrastructure issues
- Ensuring that identified issues are being driven to resolution
- Engages in self-directed continuous improvement of the network infrastructure
- Investigates and follows both industry best practices and contributes to technical standards
- Documents configuration and standards
- Manage and liaise with 3rd parties to provide timely resolutions to support issues
Experience required for the role as Network Infrastructure Engineer (3rd Line)
- Understanding of networking and distributed computing concepts, TCP/IP V4 and V6, IP addressing/subnetting, LAN/WAN, DHCP, DNS, VPN, NAT, Routing, P2P circuits, BGP/OSPF, Switching and Firewalls, server virtualization, client/server applications, disaster recovery and business continuity
- Extensive knowledge of network security, threat detection and mitigation
- Extensive knowledge of implementation and support of Ethernet networks (Enterprise level) with firewalls, routers and switches from vendors including Cisco and Checkpoint.
- Extensive knowledge PKI, certificates and related authentication technologies (RADIUS, NPS etc.)
- Practical knowledge implementing security using VPN technologies including IPSec, SSL VPN, and encryption.
- Practical knowledge of On-Prem -> Azure and AWS connectivity including VPC and NSG
- Knowledge of Wifi technologies including WLAN controllers
- Working knowledge of tools including SIEM solutions, Solarwinds, PRTG, Cat Tools, syslog, SNMP, Visio Dark Trace and Wireshark
- Working knowledge of, and ability to support network products from a wide variety of vendors including Cisco and Checkpoint
